Partly Back up...

Hello All

Just letting you all know that we are partly back up i.e. the Forums are back, sadly the games are still closed due to ill health.

This isn't all that bad, I am in my spare time working on a new game from scratch, granted this is slow in progress and I am still in the design stage, so this may take a while.

This game will be coded from the ground up using all new code and nothing from the old BNT code will be used, which leads me to say this will be closed source and only run on our servers.

At the moment I haven't got anything solid written down so things may change over time.

That's all that I am saying for now.

 I played a long time ago, and come back to this. Was thinking of hosting a small server for me and friends to play on (I don't think they'd like the official huge one like me). Any way you can post just the source and let people figure out how to setup the game. I understand if you don't want to, however.

Thanks for a great game,
ConnorJC

The code has always been available from the start 15 or so years ago.

I know. I was sad you said you were considering going closed source (Unless I misinterpreted your statement).

Oh, the new version similar to BNT that I was thinking of doing from scratch, if that ever takes off (still in design stages), that would remain closed source, sorry, I got so fed up spending so much of my time on a game for people to download and take credit for it breaking the licencing terms.

That's why if I do any game from scratch it would most probably be closed source.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for open source, but when you get bitten loads of times by people stealing your code it starts to make you think is it worth it.

As for the current source code of BNT that will remain to be open source (that's Ron's Game, I am just one of the main developers/admins for it), sadly that code has sort of gone the opposite direction I really wanted it, its too bloated at the moment, so I "may" not work on that any more, but things may change later if I get some free time and is well enough so that might get recoded from scratch.

Who knows.

Yeah, I understand how frustrating that could be. When you say people are breaking the license terms, you mean not releasing the source code, or not giving you guys credit? (You are using the AGPL, right? I couldn't see any other license.)

Both, they took our code made loads of changes and just refused to release/make available their code changes and on top of that removed our copyright message and put in theirs.

Yeah we are AGPL v3 I think, been a while since I looked at the files.

Wow, that hurts. Sorry to hear that. Anyways, be sure to announce if your new design comes to fruition. From what I can see of looking at the current state of the code, restarting would probably have a big benefit.
